Travel Guide: Budapest

Budda, Buda, Buda, Buda rockin’ everywhere.

Everyone I know who has studied abroad has always raved about Budapest. It was my sister’s favorite place she traveled to when she studied abroad by far. So I was obviously so excited that it was going to be our very first trip! Needless to say, Budapest definitely lived up to all the hype and exceeded our expectations.

It truly is Buda-ful. 😉

Where To Eat

Szimply

The first day, we ate at the cutest brunch spot called Szimply. Do not underestimate the small space of the restaurant as the dishes will sure blow your mind. The food is beautifully prepared and tastes just as amazing as it looks! I had the BEST avocado toast in my entire life and would eat it over and over again if I could. Szimply should definitely be on the top of your list for brunch in Budapest.

Chimney Cake

STILL. NOT. OVER. THIS. I mistakenly took out way too much cash out of the ATM in order to purchase this beauty but oh was it totally worth it. This Chimney Cake is filled with nutella, with a chocolate and vanilla twist, topped with oreos & chocolate sauce. It is even better than it sounds AND looks. Trust me, you need to try this and I assure you, you will have zero regrets.

Ristorante Italiano Bottega di Brontolo

The first night, we went to this Italian restaurant where we all ordered amazing pasta. Most of us ordered the “Four Cheese Penne” (Gorgonzola, Brie, Parmigiana & Pecorino), myself included and it was to die for. Others ordered the Bolognese which was also delicious. A great spot!

Mazel Tov

INCREDIBLEEEEEE. This Mediterranean restaurant is now one of my absolute favorite places and the meal I had is easily in the top 10 best meals I have ever had. I ordered the “Veggie Burger,” which consists of a SWEET POTATO as the bun, yes a SWEET POTATO. The french fries will blow your mind, especially the sweet potato fries (Can you tell I am the biggest sweet potato fan?!). The inside of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, making you feel like you are eating inside a garden, with beautiful flowers hanging above and trees planted in every corner.

TIP: I RECOMMEND MAKING A RESERVATION AHEAD OF TIME BECAUSE IT IS SO POPULAR.

What To See & Do

Fisherman’s Bastion

AMAZING!! The view and architecture will both take your breath away. Fisherman’s Bastion should definitely be at the top of your list as it has the best panoramic view of the entire city and is the perfect place to capture all the aesthetic photos.

The Museum of Sweets & Selfies

THE CUTEST MUSEUM EVER!!! I was literally in heaven. This museum will make you smile without a doubt. The Museum of Sweets & Selfies is not like a regular museum, it is way more fun and yes, it has candy. From pink flamingos & a swimming pool of sprinkles (with a dive board of course) to strawberry and banana-shaped swings, as well as a life-size unicorn, this museum is straight out of a fairy tale. You could say I was living my best life.

Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Hungary is famous for its thermal baths. The baths are truly an experience that I will never forget and definitely a must-do in Budapest. If you are a germaphobe like me, try your best to ignore the unsanitary thoughts (a tequila pineapple drink helped me out with this) because it is actually one of the best experiences and truly something I would love to do again.

  • TIP #1: I RECOMMEND PURCHASING YOUR TICKET ONLINE BEFOREHAND, AS WELL AS BRINGING A TOWEL & A PAIR OF FLIP-FLOPS!
  • TIP #2: I PURCHASED A CABIN TO HAVE SPACE TO CHANGE & STORE MY BELONGINGS, WHICH I THINK IS THE BEST MOVE AND IS NOT THAT MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A LOCKER.

Night Life

The first night, we went to the coolest ruin bar called Szimpla Kert. It is a huge, two story bar with an outdoor garden area and had at least five bars. Order the “Pink Fuzzy” Cocktail, it is delicious!

The second night, after our dinner at Mazel Tov, we went to the club Instant. It was the perfect spot for celebrating our friend’s 21st birthday!
